The course concentrates on the practical aspects of being a DSE assessor including case studies, use of 'mock up' workstation for practical sessions to increase your levels of DSE assessing confidence.

Each delegate is provided with a training manual, template DSE Document and access to our DSE consultants for free advice by telephone, if they come across a DSE related problem thereafter.

What the delegate will be able to do after training:

  • Briefly explain the assessment procedure and if user has any work related issues/ailment
  • Posture: Address employees posture and ergonomic habits and advise on any change required to improve comfort levels
  • Chair: Assess compliance and assist user with chair adjustment and its best postural use
  • Display Screen: Check at correct height, free of flicker, and employee aware of brightness contrast etc
  • Addressing good keyboard/mouse use and suggesting new methods or hardware if there is an ailment
  • Desk height space and desk management is assessed and advice offered
  • Explain eye sight policy/regulations, assess if user can see screen text clearly and read keyboard clearly
  • Environment; Lighting, Ventilation, Cabling, Glare and clear access to workstation
  • Laptop use and discussion on using correct accessories
  • Invite the employee to confirm they're happy with the assessment and sign the four page report

DSE Assessor Training One Day Course Overview

  • Course aims and objectives
    • Educational aims - to appreciate the requirements of the DSE Regulations and under stan d the potential problems caused by DSE work; how they are caused and what can be done to rectify them.
    • Objectives - to be able to carry out effective DSE assessments, correcting problems immediately or recording actions required and assessing priority for later rectification. To be able to answer queries from people being assessed.
    • Target audience – FM’s, H&S Managers, OHT’s and senior personnel selected to carry out DSE/Workstation Risk Assessments on fellow employees.
  • Formal classroom work
    • Definitions and introduction - Health & Safety At Work Act DSE Regulations (1992 amended 2002).
    • Health risks - presentation, questioning on experience, demonstrations of neutral position.
    • Equipment adjustment and use - presentation, questioning, demonstration.
    • Environment - presentation, questioning, demonstration.
    • Software, task management, breaks - presentation.
    • Exercises - presentation, demonstration.
    • How to complete the forms (Based on the HSE L26) and documentation provided.
    • Practical role playing session on checking a workstation and carrying out a DSE Assessment with another team member.
    • Brief Q&A session.
